Attendance

At Manorvale, we strive to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. A key component of this success is consistent attendance.

We want to take a moment to emphasise the importance of your child being present in school every day. Regular attendance not only helps students keep up with understanding concepts and developing skills, but also fosters valuable habits like responsibility and time management that will serve them throughout their lives.

Declines in achievement are evident with any level of absence. However, greater numbers of absences are typically associated with larger declines in student achievement. Studies of chronic absenteeism (missing more than 10% of school days = 18 days = approximately 4 days a term) show that regardless of the type, absence, has a compounding negative impact on academic performance.

Why Attendance Matters:

  1. Academic Progress: Each day’s instruction builds on the previous day’s learning. Missing school can make it challenging for students to catch up on critical concepts and skills.
  2. Social and Emotional Growth: Being part of the classroom community helps students develop friendships, teamwork, and communication skills.
  3. Preparation for the Future: Good attendance habits prepare students for higher education and the workplace, where consistent participation is essential.

We understand that absences may sometimes be unavoidable due to illness or emergencies. In such cases, we encourage parents to notify the school promptly and work with teachers to ensure your child stays on track. However, we also ask for your support in minimising avoidable absences, such as holidays or non-urgent appointments during school hours.

How We Can Work Together:

  • Encourage your child to attend school every day unless they are unwell.
  • Schedule appointments or family events outside of school hours whenever possible.
  • Communicate with us if your child faces challenges affecting their attendance, so we can provide support.

We appreciate your partnership in promoting a culture of regular attendance and dedication to learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff.

Thank you for your commitment to your child’s education and success. Together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
