The Visual Arts program at Manorvale Primary School is designed to build students' confidence, artistic skills, and social development by creating an environment where creativity and individual effort are celebrated. The program values not only the outcome but also the intent and process behind each piece of work. By teaching essential skills alongside encouraging creative freedom, students achieve success at all levels.
The curriculum is structured in a sequential manner, providing a well-rounded program that covers key art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, textiles, and modeling. It also explores the elements of line, form, color, and texture, with a creative focus on experience, imagination, emotions, ideas, and concepts in each session.
Through interdisciplinary units, students are introduced to artists from around the globe and draw inspiration from various cultures and countries. They also explore multimedia and learn to match their artistic choices with purpose, process, and presentation.
In addition, students are taught the language of art to develop both aesthetic awareness and perceptual skills, which they apply to their own work and to appreciating the work of others.
