At Manorvale Primary School, all students from Prep to Year Six engage in weekly 60-minute physical education lessons led by a specialist PE teacher. These classes are designed to help students develop fundamental motor skills, encourage active participation, and foster values such as fairness, teamwork, cooperation, and most importantly, enjoyment. Our goal is not only to improve physical skills but also to instill a lifelong love for physical activity and support a healthy lifestyle.
For Prep to Year Two students, the curriculum centers on developing fundamental motor skills like catching, running, kicking, throwing, dodging, and striking. Students are introduced to basic game rules, procedures, and small group activities. They also participate in our whole-school swimming program and engage in events like cross country and sports days.
In Years Three to Six, the focus shifts to refining more complex motor skills through various games and activities. Students learn the safe conduct of games, proper equipment usage, and the importance of following rules. They also explore the roles and responsibilities in sports and develop strategies to improve both skills and game performance. Additionally, students in Years Four to Six can participate in cross country and athletics events, and represent the school in district, division, regional, and state competitions. Year Six students compete in interschool sports throughout the year, including Summer and Winter competitions, against other schools. Sports offered include Cricket, Rugby, Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer, AFL, Tee-ball, Netball, and Basketball.
Throughout school events, students build meaningful connections and come to appreciate the unique contributions each person makes to the success of the group. These programs focus on enjoyment, participation, skill development, fitness, and sportsmanship. The primary goal is to foster a lasting passion for physical activity that extends into secondary school and beyond.
